Coolawang Border Border Leicesters is run by Coolawang Pastoral Company proprietors Trevor & Judy James. The farming property is situated 25 ks south west of Mundulla SA.

The sheep enterprise is based around a self replacing merino flock. The older merino ewes are mated to Border Leicesters. The Border Leicester x Merino ewes are sold as one & a half year olds at the Naracoorte Border Leicester x Merino off shears sale in November. Some ewes are retained and are mated to Poll Dorset rams. The wether portion are finished on grain and sold as heavy weights.

The James family has been breeding first cross ewes for over 30 years.

In 2008 we purchased the entire semen holding of the dispersed Oaks stud. The Hosking family operated one of the prominant Border Leicester stud in Victoria for seventy seven years. With less than 25% of flocks using Lambplan we needed to source outside genetics to meet our breeding objectives. The Oaks sheep were renowned for their wool and with the NZ BLOODLINES we have the opportunity to breed better muscled sheep. The were several NZ sires in the Oaks package which were of interest to us. This year there will be rams available from the well known Oaks Pride 54
